A short report for today. The day was beautiful - warm and clear. However, today was also our first day of class. After waking up in the morning, and checking our email, we got ready for school. We had 6 hours of class today. While fun, it dragged in the middle of the day. Thank god for lunch!
After the school day was over, we had a big party to welcome us to Hiroshima Institute of Technology. This was a lot of fun, and I got to speak with some people I didn't even expect to speak with! I met a professor there by the name of Asano. He does computer vision and robotic vision at HIT. He invited me to come up and see his lab, as well as do some work with them. I think I'll be visiting tomorrow or Wednesday. I met a few other professors too.
I also met my host family! This was a great surprise and a real joy. The mother and the child were both there. The father is a pilot for an airline. They are all Korean, yet speak perfect Japanese. They also live right across the street at another apartment building! I suppose I won't have to learn a new neighbourhood then.
I was challenged to box by a big Japanese guy. I agreed. He's big but slow. We'll train a bit in about a week. I'm looking forward to it. I am also looking forward to meeting the judo or aikido club members. Should be fun!
Class starts late tomorrow, so I won't need to get up early. It's about 12:33 PM - time for bed.
